A number of consistently high-priced lists are excluded.
All units and prices are converted to their 750ml bottle equivalent.
The wine name must match a wine recognized by the Wine-Searcher database.
Average prices given are exclusive of sales tax. Our calculations remove sales tax from any tax-inclusive price lists. The tax status of a merchant's price list is shown on our detail pages about that merchant (along with their address and our rating, etc.).
Currency and Exchange Rates
All prices displayed on Wine-Searcher are converted to the selected currency using Interbank exchange rates. These rates are updated every day.
Min. and Max Prices
The Min. and Max. wine prices shown in various places around our site are calculated with 'topped and tailed' data, with the top and bottom 10% removed.
In order to provide the most useful information possible, we 'top and tail' the data set, removing the highest and lowest 10%. This prevents the average price from being skewed by pricing errors.
Why are average prices different from what I see in my search results?
There are three reasons why you may see a variation:
Average prices exclude sales taxes; merchant detail results often include taxes.
Our software removes the very highest and very lowest prices when calculating averages.
If you are using the free version of Wine-Searcher you are viewing a partial set of results.
Are average prices calculated across all countries or the country I have selected?
Average prices and price ranges are calculated for each wine, for each vintage and for each country. So if you have selected the United States, we will show you the average price for the wine from merchants located only in the United States.
I'd like to work out the average price of my wines. Can you help?
