Creating a data feed for Wine-Searcher
A data feed is a file that contains a listing of your products. A datafeed is the most efficient and reliable method for Wine-Searcher to pick up up all the wines that you sell. For each wine you wish Wine-Searcher to list you must include the following information:
- Wine Name.
- Price, which must use full-stops not commas to indicate cents, pence etc. (as an example, a number in the price field which is 12,50 will be read by us as "1250").
We will assume the price is ex-sales tax unless you notify us differently.
You may also wish to include the following information:
- Vintage.
- Bottle Size and Selling Unit as one field (e.g. "bottle", "150cl", "12 x 75cl bottles" or "Case of 6 Magnums").
- A deep-link wine URL (i.e. a link which will take the user directly to a "selling" page for the individual product on your website).
The basic datafeed should be:
- A delimited text file in LATIN1 or UTF-8 encoding. ASCII is also acceptable. The delimiter should be a "Pipe" ( | ).
- First line of the file is the header and must contain field names.
- One line per wine (use a newline or carriage return to terminate the line).
- Wine URLs must be fully qualified. That is, they must include the http:// at the beginning.
- The content in your file must be the same as the content visible to users on your website. The wine name and price you provide in the feed must be the same as the name and price on your product pages.
You should not:
- Include tabs, carriage returns or new line characters in any of the fields, including the wine names.
- HTML tags, comments and escape sequences should not be included - wine names must be plain text.
The data feed should be made available to Wine-Searcher as a single URL, for example:
http://www.mywinecompany.com/winesearcherfeed.txt
It should not require a user name and password to access.
