The Cote Rotie, in the northern Rhone, is a red wine appellation. The slopes are distinguished as either Cote Blonde (which produce wines for early drinking) or Cote Brune (associated with firmer, more durable all-Syrah wines). The finest Cote Rotie is meant to be a blend of the two. Syrah is trained on the vine in a distinctive way on these slopes.
