Mâconnais Wine

The Macon is an important commercial center on the river Saone and the capital of the Maconnais district which produces considerable quantities of white wine and some red. Unlike the Cote d'Or to the north, vineyards on the rolling limestone hills are interspersed with land dedicated to livestock and arable farming. The principal white grape variety is Chardonnay.
