Macedonia in the south-east of Europe has a modern wine industry which predominantly produces red wines using both local grape varieties like Vranac and Kratosija, as well as some international varieties, mainly Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
The most prominent wine-growing regions are Povardarie, Pcinja-Osogovo and Pelagonija-Polog. The climate is a mix of Continental and Mediterranean and is considered to be very conducive for viticulture.
