This is the most well-known county in the larger North Coast AVA, largely because the world famous Napa Valley AVA covers most of the region. The Napa Valley AVA and its sub-regions are the only AVA’s in Napa County. The few undesignated vineyards outside of the Napa Valleys boundaries use the County AVA.
All wine producers in the Napa County can include the County AVA on their labels but it is rare in this region as the Napa Valley AVA title is much more profitable. Sub-region AVA names are often included on labels with the Napa AVA title but never on their own. State law asserts that the ‘Napa Valley’ should always get a mention.
