Pomerol is a small but distinctive wine region in Bordeaux producing opulent red wines mainly from the Merlot grape. Pomerol's most successful wines (for example, Ch. Petrus) are highly sought after and command a high price. An important factor in the quality of the wines is vine age and low yields. Pomerol is also unusual in being the only one of Bordeaux's great wine districts to have no official classification.
