Salado Creek Wine

The Salado Creek AVA (American Viticulture Area) is located in western Stanislaus County just southwest of the town of Patterson. This AVA mostly consists of small grape growers with the wines being made in nearby contract wineries under a handful of labels.

Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier are the main grape varieties grown in Salado Creek. The AVA has been granted its designation largely because it is the only place in California where the Ensalado series of soils are found, with the boundaries of the AVA formed to reflect this unique character. These soils are deep and well drained, resulting in limited stress to the vines and moderate vigor. Delta breezes from the north help to protect the vines from the searing summer heat and maintain important acidity in the grapes, a feature of the wines produced here.
