Salado Creek WineThe Salado Creek AVA (American Viticulture Area) is located in northern Stanislaus County, south-west of the town of Patterson. This AVA mostly consists of small grape growers, with the region's wines being made at contract wineries under a handful of labels. Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier are the main grape varieties grown in Salado Creek. The region was granted AVA status largely because it is the only place in California where the Ensalado series of soils is found. These soils are deep and well drained, resulting in moderate vigor and limited stress to the vines. Delta breezes from the north help to protect the grapes from the searing summer heat and thereby maintain important acidity. |
