Yountville is a halfway point between north and south of the Napa Valley winegrowing region and is also a mix of warm climate and cool climate. It shares its northern boundary with the renowned Oakville AVA and its southern boundary with the cool climate AVA of Oak Knoll District.

Cabernet Sauvignon is particularly well regarded, producing elegant styles due to the cooler growing conditions which result in long-lived wines with chunky tannins and deep concentration which age for a long time in the bottle. Merlot, Zinfandel and Syrah produce some great wines, as do the cool climate varieties Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay.
