In terms of Appellation Controlee (AC) wines produced, Bordeaux is the largest wine-producing area of France. The single most important appellation within this is AC Bordeaux rouge, accounting for just under half of all production. It has been estimated that more than 3000 individual chateau names exist in Bordeaux.
