The Cote de Nuits, named after its principal town, Nuits-St-Georges, is the northern half of the Cote d'Or escarpment. Some of the greatest red wines of Burgundy are produced here from the Pinot Noir grape. White wines from the Chardonnay grape are also occasionally made.
