Coteaux du Lyonnais wines are light red wines made mainly from Gamay grapes grown in the hills north and south west of the city of Lyon. The wines are mainly drunk by Lyon's inhabitants. The appellation was only granted in 1984. A small amount of white wine is also made using Chardonnay and Aligote. The co-operative Saint-Bel is responsible for the majority of production.
