Wines from McLaren Vale

McLaren Vale consistently produces fine wines from a number of varieties, most importantly Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. There are many other varieties planted: Malbec, Merlot, Chardonnay, Semillon, Grenache, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and Verdelho, to name a few. The diversity of the grapes reflects the different soil types and topography. Sandy soils are on the coast, ironstone in the hills and red/brown earths on the flats.
