In contrast to many Mexican vine producing regions which require substantial irrigation, the vineyards of Queretaro have been dogged by the timing of heavy rains just before harvest. The vine varieties planted include a range of European red varieties (e.g., Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot) supplemented by those more common to California (e.g., Zinfandel) as well as American hybrids such as Black Spanish and Lenoir.
