Vaud is Switzerland's second most important wine canton and is situated on the north shore of Lake Geneva. Chasselas grapes account for over 80% of plantings. A little Chardonnay and Pinot Gris are also grown here and red wines, made of Gamay, are a speciality. Many of Switzerland's largest negociants are based in this area.
