Castilla-La Mancha (or Castile-La Mancha in English) is a large region of Spain located in the southern half of the vast central Iberian plateau. The region is famous for its Manchego cheese, providing the backdrop for Don Quixote and wine.
'Harsh' is the best way to describe the vine-growing conditions in this elevated region. Adverse conditions mean that the land is very sparsely populated, with much of it dedicated to natural reserves and parks.
