Grape Variety: Welschriesling

Welschriesling is a white wine variety which is completely unrelated to the German Riesling. The origin of Welschriesling is unclear, but it is believed to come from somewhere in Eastern Europe, and quite possibly Romania. The word Welsch literally means foreign in Germanic languages. The uncertain background of the variety is further evidenced by its long list of synonyms.
