Grape Variety

Cinsaut and Grenache are two grapes commonly grown in southern France to use in red and rosé wines. The two varieties have much in common; they are both lighter bodied than other Rhone varieties, have strong resistance to droughts and perform best when overcropping is avoided.

There is great variation within the Cinsaut and Grenache wine category. At the top end of the scale these wines might be from the prestigious Chateauneuf-du-Pape appellation, and command great prices. At the other end they may be very simple Vin de Pays/IGP wines, perhaps even released as a bag-in-box for everyday consumption.


  • Coteaux du Libron is an IGP title for red, white and rosé wines produced in an area in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of southern France. The vineyards can be found within the valley of the Libron river, which flows south from the Cevennes mountains near the AOC-level Faugeres and Saint-Chinian appellations towards the Mediterranean coast. Both traditional blended wines and more modern varietally labeled wines are made under the Coteaux du Libron IGP.
