Region Hierarchy
  • Weinviertel wine region

Weinviertel, meaning wine quarter, is Austria’s largest wine-producing region both in terms of area under vine and the amount of wine produced. Gruner Veltliner accounts for over half of all the vines planted in the region, and the wine produced here is distinctively dry and peppery.

The Manhartsberg Mountains separate Weinviertel from the unfavorable climatic conditions of Oberosterreich in the west.

Responsible for roughly half of Austria’s total wine output, it is the country’s largest wine region, both geographically and in terms of production.
