Malbec is a black-skinned grape variety native to southern France (specifically the area around Cahors), but now better known as the icon wine grape of Argentina. La Consulta wine region
La Consulta is a small wine-growing sub-region in the southern Uco Valley of Mendoza, Argentina, which sits in the shadow of the 5830m (19,100ft) volcano, San Jose.
The Tunuyan river flows through the middle of La Consulta's wine-growing area, bringing meltwater directly from the peaks of the Andes, and providing the local viticulturalists with a resource to combat the otherwise dry, hot climate.
Vineyards surround the small town of La Consulta on all sides, with a heavy concentration to the west, approaching the slopes of the lower Andes mountains.
