Grape Variety

Mauzac (or Mauzac Blanc) is the traditional grape variety of Limoux and Gaillac in south-west France. The grape is very sensitive to its growing conditions and may take on a number of guises. Green, pink or even black grapes may adorn Mauzac vines, and they are used in the production of various sparkling wines. Still, dry wine is made from Mauzac to a lesser extent, but this practice has been declining since the turn of the 21st Century and Chardonnay-based wines have all but replaced Mauzac on this front.
