Wine-Searcher Search Rank

Each month more than ten million searches are made on Wine-Searcher by people (and many more by search engine indexing software). We log every search made by people, and keep track of the most searched-for wines (view last month's top 100 wines). In addition to a monthly Search Rank, we also calculate a search rank for the previous calendar year.

Both Search Rank numbers can be seen on a wine's detail page (that also shows the price history graph, critic scores, etc.). A ranking of 'n/a' indicates that the wine was not yet matched in our system when the rank was calculated.

We use the monthly Search Rank to sort the wine list that shows at the bottom of our regions and grapes pages. Thus, those pages show the most popular wines within the relevant region/appellation or the grape/blend. As examples, try to guess the most 'in demand' French wine or chardonnay wine, and then click to those pages to check.

The Search Rank rates how popular a wine is among wine-searcher's visitors; it is not a wine scoring system. For information on professional wine scores and judging, see Wine Critics, Wine Awards & Competitions and Wine Scores.
