About the Product

Producer Notes: This is a wine that shows the artistry of blending five Bordeaux-heritage grape varieties, which contributed layer-upon-layer of flavor complexity. Cabernet Sauvignon gave the wine its generous core of briary blackberry and cassis expression, while we increased the amount of Merlot this year to tame the tannins and add plush mid-palate texture. Malbec contributed deep plum notes, while Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot completed the blend with nuances of rose, forest loam and graphite.

Vineyard Notes: We chose specific blocks of top-quality grapes that give Tapestry the combined attributes of terroir expression and a round, approachable tannin structure. Roughly half of the Cabernet Sauvignon was grown on the famous western benchland of the Rutherford American Viticultural Area (AVA) and the balance from the Calistoga, Oakville, and Coombsville AVAs. The Merlot comes from our vineyards in the warmer parts of Carneros and the Rutherford Bench, while the Petit Verdot and Malbec are sourced exclusively from our estate vineyards in Rutherford. The Cabernet Franc is grown on Howell Mountain where berries are small, concentrated and extremely expressive.

Optical sorting, cold soaking and gentle pumpovers along with in-barrel malolactic fermentation all contributed to this wine’s richly textured and complex flavors.

Bramble and woodsy freshness dance with aromatics of resinous herbs, carrying into flavors of ripe black fruits and layers of spices. Hints of cocoa and a touch of vanilla emerge with further sipping, hinting at a mix of warm summer pastries of rhubarb, strawberry and a touch of marzipan. Powdery fine and richly layered tannins carry into a long finish.

A layered and lightly chewy red with currant, orange peel and hints of hazelnut. Fine tannins. Some pine, cedar, graphite, black currant and iodine. Perfumed. Tannins turn fine and bright. Excellent length and serious tension. One of the best I have had. A blend of 60% cabernet sauvignon, 15% petit verdot, 11% cabernet franc, 9% malbec and 5% merlot. Drinkable but will age nicely. Best in two or three years.

Tapestry is the perfect name to describe this blend of grapes long associated with Bordeaux but grown for more than a century in Napa Valley. In 2019 the mix is 63% cabernet sauvignon, 15% malbec, 13% merlot, 5% cabernet franc and 4% petit verdot. The style is lush with sweet, ripe brambleberry and boysenberry tempered by a freshness of acidity, florals, and an undercut of briary notes that reveal some of the changes going on at BV designed to up the value and the quality across the board. It is morphing into a mix of old European styling and Napa new. Tapestry has been around since 1990 and is often sourced from the same blocks on the Rutherford Bench, Calistoga, Oakville, and St Helena AVAs. There are two styles of cabernet franc: one from the Sonoma Valley brings a fresh style touch with herbal notes; while the other comes with ripe, expressive red fruit. The final mix spends 19 months in 60% new French oak barrels. Fine value. (Anthony Gismondi).

The 2017 ‘Tapestry’ by Beaulieu Vineyard is a sensational blend that artfully captures each working part. A blend of mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with small portions Merlot, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, this opens with bright red fruit aromas that meld with suggestions of baking spices, red bell pepper and chocolate that all mingle in the glass. The palate is beautifully textured with layers of loganberry preserves, chocolate, sagebrush and herbal undertones. Sensational to enjoy in its youth, the 2017 ‘Tapestry’ will enjoy a long life ahead of him.

The 2014 ‘Tapestry’ by BV is a blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Merlot with a touch of Petit Verdot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc. This starts off with aromatics reminiscent of anise, cocoa powder, creme de cassis and red bell pepper. This has a wonderful balance and sense of place. Anise, mocha, creme de cassis and green bell pepper flavors connect with a great structure. This polished effort improves after a two hour decant.
