Second label of Chateau l'Evangile
Critic tasting note: (2018 vintage) "The approachable black cherry and truffle profile with its glossy, sexy character is so good it is hard to believe this is a second wine . This is a Pomerol with personality that you can drink in its youth while waiting for the Grand Vin to mature. 91-93 91 Points" - Jeff Leve, The Wine Cellar Insider

- Producer Notes
- Blason de L’Evangile is selected from the same vats that are used to make the Grand Vin. It has characteristics similar to the Grand Vin, but less potential for ageing as it is matured in barrels for a shorter period of time. It should be drunk younger than its more robust counterpart.

Through a mystery of geology, the southeast Pomerol plateau features a long line of surface gravel. Three vineyards, including L’Évangile, share this rare soil. The property occupies a very strategic position. It is bordered to the north by Château Pétrus, and is separated from Cheval Blanc in Saint-Emilion to the south by nothing more than a secondary road. The vineyard covers 22 hectares, made up of sandy clay soil with pure gravel, on a subsoil containing iron residues. The grape varieties consist of Merlot (80%) which contributes to the wine’s fruity flavour and body, and its unmistakable suppleness; and “Bouchet”, the local name for Cabernet Franc (20%), which brings finesse and structure. Traditional techniques are used. Production is limited and the harvests are carried out by hand, as are numerous other tasks in the vineyard throughout the year.

- Vintage Notes

This year, the frost forced us to carry out extraordinary selection within the plots, meticulously marking the vines affected by frost and those that had been spared, and this continued until the harvest, which required intricate sorting. A classic maceration of 30 days and promising blends in January have confirmed our impressions of a vintage with balance between great aromatic freshness, quality of tannins and length.

-
Traditional and modern winemaking methods are closely associated in all of the winery’s operations. Fermentation in vats is carried out using the traditional method of pumping over and controlled maceration, with frequent tasting.

- Ageing
-
Once fermentation is completed, the wine is matured in oak barrels for 15 months in two-year old barrels.
- Producer Tasting Notes
-
Deep, dense colour with glints of violet. Refined, fresh nose with subtle, elegant aromas of mocha. Generous on the palate with fruity notes of raspberry and Morello cherry. Ripe, delicate, well-coated tannins contribute to the wine’s power and length. The finish is subtle and smooth.
