A creamy freshness emanates from the first aromas of white fruit (peach, quince), raspberry and chalk, in a nose that is all delicacy and refinement. The remarkably creamy bubbles lend an airy quality to this charming, fruity, round wine without any heaviness. The comfortable finish retains a refined freshness with chalky notes.

The NV ‘Special Cuvee’ is a compelling blend of 60% Pinot Noir, 25% Chardonnay, 15% Pinot Meunier that was sourced from mainly Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards. This is broad-shouldered and rich showing pie crust and baking spices alongside shades of juicy pear and peach notes on the nose. The palate is rich and viscous with serious underlying verve and a silky mousse. Delicious now, enjoy this beautiful wine now and over the next eight years.

The Estate Since 2023, Denis Bunner has officially been the new cellar master of Maison Bollinger. Son of winemakers, with a grandfather who was a founder of a cooperative, Denis Bunner has wine in his veins! Although he handled his first bottles of cremant in his grandfather's cellar in Alsace, Denis Bunner had no idea that bubbles would become the center of his life! During his studies, he met Michel Valade, a researcher at the Comite Interprofessionnel des Vins de Champagne. Impressed by his work, he spent 10 years by his side, during which he met Gilles Descotes. About to become the cellar master of Maison Bollinger, the latter found in Denis Bunner the ideal assistant, in 2013. Denis Bunner is a jack-of-all-trades, particularly skilled in the invaluable task of restoring the reserve of old vintages, which he is entrusted with. A titanic task that intimately binds him to the brand and its timeless values: Pinot Noir, its 165ha estate vineyard, its home-made barrels, its reserve magnums, and time, which only quality controls. The Wine (Base 2019, disgorgement 2023) Created in 1911, this emblematic cuvee has managed to gain in precision while retaining its vinous and refined style. In the context of climate change (which, for number enthusiasts, translates into a decrease in total acidity of 1.3 g/H2SO4 and an increase of 0.8% abv in alcohol over 20 years), the technical evolutions brought by the duo Gilles Descotes - Denis Bunner have preserved and improved this characteristic blend of density and subtlety that defines the wines of the Maison. Evolving between peat, warm pastries, and black fruits, this new disgorgement displays a more lively mouthfeel, illustrated by better-defined aromas, serving a finely oak aged and "chalky" finish. A remarkable and very contemporary Special Cuvee.

Special Cuvée has always been champagne for enthusiasts. The blend of 60/25/15 pinot noir, chardonnay, and pinot meunier remains mostly unaltered year after year because it contains such a high amount of reserve wine, thus fixing the house style at the same time. That style of aged, rich nutty lees, dare I say gout Anglais, is countered by a complex mix of white fruits, apple pie crust, saline notes, with darker pinot character, almonds, and ginger. The mousse is particularly fine, a function of its creamy texture and the age of the juice. Drink or hold, there is no rush. (Anthony Gismondi).

The NV ‘Special Cuvee’ is a compelling blend of 60% Pinot Noir, 25% Chardonnay, 15% Pinot Meunier which was sourced from almost entirely Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards. Very rich and generous in the glass, this offers lovely musty aromas on the nose with baked green apple, star jasmine and a dusting of white pepper. The palate is big and broad-shouldered, with brilliant underlying finesse. Enjoy now and over the next eight years. Everything is wonderfully in balance here, as this just may be the pinnacle of champagne in this price range.

Bollinger’s 2014 is an outstanding wine, filled with paradoxes. Which, of course, is one reason it’s so wonderful. Its power and simultaneous restraint is perplexing. Tightly wound at this stage, its power is still apparent, like a tiger ready to leap. Its seeming austerity is unusual for Bollinger, but it just speaks to its youthfulness. This will not remain austere! Its elegance is beguiling. Its creamy texture is magical. It is one of things that makes this Champagne so alluring. A fine vein of acidity buttresses without a hint of aggressiveness and amplifies the wine’s charm in the finish. This is a Champagne to cellar and then savor. (Michael Apstein)

Lots of biscuit aromas and a wide spectrum of fresh-citrus, candied-citrus, red-apple and red-berry notes. Mouth-filling creaminess, plus quite an imposing presence and powerful structure for an NV Brut. Long, citrus and chalky finish that’s very clean and properly dry. 60% pinot noir, 30% chardonnay, 10% pinot meunier. Almost 20% barrel fermented and 62% reserve wines. Based on the 2017 vintage and disgorged July 2021. Drink now.

Light to medium deep golden colour with vivid small bubbles. Good depth on the nose with hazelnut, light smoke, ripe peach, raspberry, pain d´épices and autolytic pastry notes. Good bite on the palate, bone dry with high ripeness of fruit, yet underlined by a vibrant acidity, fine nuttiness and a long lingering finish.

Bollinger's Special Cuvée is known for a rich, powerful, oxidative style thanks to its liberal use of reserve wines, some of which have aged in magnum for 5-15 years. So, forget the fresh fruit. This is about baked red apple, hazelnut, and brioche from aging over two years on lees. It's utterly delicious, deeply concentrated, and a fantastic champagne that you can have throughout the course of a meal. It's worth every penny. (Geoffrey Moss MW).

The NV ‘Special Cuvee’ by Bollinger starts off with ripe Gala apple and orange blossom tones that combine with biscuit and melon undertones on the nose. The palate has great freshness and a soft texture. Layers of baking spices and sourdough bread collide with minerals and lemon zest flavors. The length and mouthfeel is really great here, as this beautiful wine is best enjoyed over the next seven to ten years.

The Bollinger house style is rich and powerful. The blend is 60/25/15 pinot noir/ chardonnay/ pinot meunier, with a small amount of reserve wine spanning 15 years. Fifty percent of this cuvée ferments in oak casks, and you can’ t miss the rich, toasted hazelnut nose that draws you into the glass. Add some red fruits, and creamy texture, and you end up with a long, expansive food-worthy sparkler with equally compelling acidity that captures the imagination. As good as this is now, you can effortlessly age it a decade. Also available in 1.5 litre and .375 litre formats. (Anthony Gismondi).
