Producer Notes: The Grand Vin of Calon Ségur mirrors its terroir. It is rare, authentic and stirs the soul. In the most natural way, it reveals both great delicacy and outstanding intensity. All the magic of Calon is in this balance. The style is brought by a Cabernet Sauvignon which expresses its finesse without arrogance. Elegance is to be found everywhere, in the purity of the wine’s flavours, in the delicacy of its texture, while its depth and length are also superb. The wine’s extraordinary ability to age many years in bottle is another feature of the estate. The 1947, 1953 and 1982 vintages, by way of example, still display astonishing signs of youth.

Vintage Notes: Between December 2023 and March 2024, winter was characterized by milder temperatures (+0,85°C) and a more important rainfall (+143mm), compared to the ten-year average. The flowering, observed between June 6th and 12th, occurred at an average temperature of 18°C, rainless. The clement temperature of July and August (-0,3°C) and the rainfall in little deficit (-13mm) compared to the same norms, allowed moderated pressure to the vine. However, September turned out to have fresher temperatures (-1,8°C) and more sustained rainfall episodes (+57mm). These conditions had us keep composure, patience, and a high watchfulness regarding the sanitary state. Yet again, the clay played its part of regulating, allowing us to push to the maximum, the ripeness of the grapes.

82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 1 % Petit Verdot. Intense on the nose, with aromatic blackcurrants, and meaty on the palate, well-knit, with a fine mid-palate, and a persistent finish. It's a fine effort for the vintage.

Deep garnet-purple colored. It's a little shy to start off, needing some swirling to bring out notes of black raspberries and red cherries, followed by wafts of cassis, mint tea, and dark chocolate with a hint of pencil lead. The light to medium-bodied palate delivers very good tension and bright, red berry flavors with savory sparks and fine-grained tannins, finishing with a refreshing lift.

Quite floral in its nature, the wine quickly reveals its core of cherries and currants in the aromatic profile. Juicy, fresh, and energetic, the wine is medium-bodied, with a bright center of sweet, vibrant, red fruits and black currants on the mid-palate, leading to a mint-accented, soft, lifted finish. The wine blends 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot. 13.1% ABV, 3.6 pH. Yields were 45 hectoliters per hectare. The harvest took place September 23 - October 9. You only need to give it 2 years or so of patience, and it will be a beauty to drink for at least 2 decades with ease. Drink from 2029-2055.

A fruity wine that’s approachable but still serious and complex, with cocoa, currants, paprika and berries. Medium- to full-bodied. The tannins are taut, chalky, caressing and superbly knit with the fruit. Really juicy and long, and there aren't any hard edges. 82% cabernet sauvignon, 9% merlot, 8% cabernet franc and 1% petit verdot.

Dark berry, graphite, amarena cherry on the nose. Aromas of cold maceration. Onthe palate, the wine is tightly gripping, powerful, not entirely free of the vegetaltones typical of the vintage, but with enough ripe fruit and not least enoughminerality to incorporate this. 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot. Très beau nez, profond, offrant une ascension très mesurée et longue, très élégante. L’ensemble est dominé par le cassis qui se retrouve surligné par un peu de menthe poivrée, et quelques fraises qui illuminent ici et là la profondeur du vin. Puis, c’est au tour du floral de rentrer dans le bal avec quelques notes de roses. La bouche est pleine et large, très vive et concentrée. On y retrouve une belle dynamique, avec une rondeur admirablement reprise par un caractère plus vif, notamment grâce à quelques petites baies rouges à la superbe concentration. Très beau grain tannique, très puissant, très précis, qui habille le vin façon costume sur mesure. Il est aussi doté d’une grande fraîcheur, ce qui va accompagner la fin de bouche, dynamisée par un éclair sapide de toute beauté ! De l’iode en finale se développe un floral magnifique de roses qu’il faudra absolument préserver à travers l’élevage en cours. 97-98/100
