The 2022 Alma de Cattleya Pinot Noir is pale to medium ruby-purple in color. Tar, black cherries, and lifted raspberries slowly emerge from the glass, with a gentle waft of herbs. The lively medium-bodied palate offers refreshing and soft easy drinking.

This wine took the most first place votes in a pretty stellar blind lineup of Pinot Noir in a tasting I hosted. It features bright black cherry, a light pepper note, dry earth mineral/crushed rock and fall spice tones on the nose and in the mouth. Balanced to the lively side, there’s a nicely integrated push in the finish. The 2023 gets a price bump over the previous vintage, but it remains a fine value. Contains clones 114, 115, 667, 777, Pommard, Swan, Calera and 2A. 93 Rich Cook

Another winner from the deft hand of winemaker Bibiana Gonzales-Rave. It celebrates the taut, cool climate style that presents in brilliant unsaturated color, with cherry, strawberry and rhubarb flavors allowed to shine without overt secondary character might smother the seductive fruit. The finish brings in just a touch of stem character that deepens the fruit perception and extends things pleasantly. Serve this with roast turkey or pork loin. Very well managed wine, as we have come to expect from this label. (Rich Cook)

This appellation blend by Bibiana Gonzalez Rave is a tremendously complex and simply delicious wine for a fair price. Aromas of cinnamon, sumac and raspberry paste are juicy yet dark and serious on the nose. There's a firm grip to the sip that frames the rich black raspberry core, with flavors of thyme, sage and cracked pepper adding more nuance. Matt Kettmann

So far northern California’s 2021 vintage is living up to the hype, as exhibited in this fine Pinot Noir from Bibiana Gonzales-Rave. The brilliant color attracts, and invites you to nose layered cherry and wildflower aromas with a note of dry earth. The palate is fresh and bright, delivering the cherry fruit with cinnamon and dry earth minerality over racy acidity. A zesty finish gives good flavor push to wrap up the sip and invite another. Decant this if going in early, or age a few years to get at everything that’s lurking. (Rich Cook)

Baked red-cherry aromas meet with vanilla and slight tar tones on the nose of this bottling. The fruit pops more on the palate, offering sharp pomegranate and ripe raspberry, surrounded by a penetrating acidity. Matt Kettmann

Aromas of cranberry, rose petal, wet gravel and slight tar greet the nose. The palate is earthy in tones of crushed rock, dried thyme and desert sagebrush, which give depth to the fresh cranberry-fruit backdrop. Matt Kettmann

Another tasty wine from Bibiana Gonzales Rave. Cherry, raspberry and damp earth minerality aromas draw out in layers, and are seamlessly integrated in the mouth, with a medium plus finish. I like the textural development here. Give it a good decanting in near term if you elect not to lay it down to age, and serve with salmon or beef. (Rich Cook)

This is a great taste of the freshness of Sonoma without the sticker shock, showing freshly pressed red berries, vanilla and wet slate on the nose. It's light in density on the sip, so the flavors of cranberry, carnation, wet earth and brown spice sail effortlessly across the palate.
