This wine never fails to amaze me. It's a screw-capped kitchen sink blend that seriously over delivers on quality. This year's model sports a slightly creamier texture, with softer acidity. It opens with an aromatic burst of strawberries and earthy oregano and sage notes. Tart strawberries dominate the palate, joined by matcha green tea and a bit of lime zest.

This S-G-M blend's aromas of raspberry popsicles and orange peels are pierced by a small amount of bell pepper. The wine's texture is as creamy as pudding, with the dominant flavor an equally creamy cherry clafoutis. Pair with a bottle of Bain du Soleil and Ivy's “Apartment Life.”

Syrah (71%) takes the lead on this wine, with the rest Grenache, Mourvèdre and bits of Cabernet Sauvignon and Counoise. Substantially lighter in color than recent vintages, the aromas are reductive out of the gate. They open to reveal pleasing notes of watermelon, strawberry and herb. The palate is light, brisk and focused, with plenty of acidity to keep the interest high. It only gets better with time open. Sean P. Sullivan

Lightly colored, the 2018 Charles and Charles Rose shows very straightforward lighter red fruit flavors with a nice combination off weight and freshness once on the palate. I can imagine how brilliantly this fruity Rose would pair with fresh oysters.

Largely comprised of Syrah, on the nose the wine starts off with a touch of lilac and pomegranate, while notes of rhubarb and a hint of cut grass show through on the palate. This ends on a strong note with a lingering cherry driven finish. The 12.3% alcohol makes for a refreshing summer beverage.

The wines from this collaboration between Charles Smith and Charles Bieler continue to impress. The rosé is mostly Syrah, with small amounts of Cinsault, Grenache, Counoise and Mourvèdre. It's a complex, fashionably stylish take on rosé. Light fruit flavors of berry and melon are detailed and refreshing, with exceptional length on the palate.

A Syrah rosé produced bone dry in collaboration with Charles Bieler from Talbott vineyard fruit. Light tawny pink, with excellent texture and surprising length. The label is all print, designed like an old poster, but laid out like an American flag—very clever, as usual with Charles Smith.
