First Growth. Premier Cru Classe in 1855. This producer makes a third wine with a similar name (Sauternes de Rayne Vigneau). Ensure your merchant has the wine you are looking for.
Expert tasting note: (2020 vintage) "The wine has a vibrant medium yellow color. The aromas display rich, peach & apricot aromas with hints of mango. There is an attractive marzipan texture with hints of vanilla oak & balanced sweetness. The mid-palate is a nice combination of honey & marzipan. The wine is full-bodied & rich. Balanced alcohol leaves the finish long & fresh." - 11/24 DCAMW

The grapes are slowly attacked by bottytis cinerea, or "noble roe', towards the end of the growing season. They are then harvested in several waves, and picked only when perfectly ripe and botrytised. Depending on the vintage, pickers may need to go through the vineyard from 4 to 8 times. Rayne Vigneau owns a brand new wine press, where each lot, carefully selected, is slowly squeezed. The resulting juice (must) is allowed to settle for 24 hours before being poured into barrels (part of them are new oak) where fermentation Will take place. This lasts for between 2 and 4 weeks in a cellar whose temperature is controlled.
