Aromas of raisin and dark plum are gritty and candied, while this Tempranillo feels fleshy but also highly acidic, sort of like aged vinegar. Short, basic plum and berry flavors finish lively and smacking. Michael Schachner

This wine's grapy blackberry aromas convey generic quality. The palate is ripe and pulpy, with toasty black fruit flavors and a dash of pepper. It's in good shape thanks to fresh acidity. Michael Schachner

Aromas of blackberries, leather and crushed stones. Thin, reduction character, too. Full body, juicy tannins and a spicy finish. Drink now.

A little bit dark and crusty on the bouquet, with murky, earthy black cherry aromas that get clearer and cleaner with air. Briary plum and cherry flavors are solid if nothing else, and the finish is basically more of the same, with length. A competent wine, but that's where it ends.

Values from Spain are becoming less common than they were a few years back, so hail this nicely made Tempranillo that delivers tons of ripe fruit, purity and drinkability. It's nothing difficult or complex; instead it is dark, chewy and pounds you with ripe black-fruit flavors. A mouthfilling, fully ripe wine with a modest upside but no faults.

Finca Antigua is a new project in La Mancha for Rioja-based Martinez-Bujanda. This is fruity tempranillo with a touch of warmth and a dusting of vanilla and spicy earth. The structure is medium bodied with a touch of dryness in the finish. Break out the cheese, olives and tapas and have a party. (Anthony Gismondi).

Not a bad little quaffer. From Martinez-Bujanda, this colorful, ripe red is solid and chunky, with sweet aromas of berries and black plum. It is what you would call straightforward, with little to no complexity but lots of girth. Finishes full, almost creamy.

Varietally true, with hints of meat and tobacco layered over blackberry fruit. Some oak shows up as well, bringing notes of roasted coffee. It's clean and tart, a young Tempranillo that offers juicy, fresh fruit at a good price. Best Buy.

Finca Anigua's crianza is a blend of mostly Tempranillo with smaller amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. After 14 months in oak, it's toasty and filled with aromas of dried spices and cocoa that slightly dominate the tart, cranberry fruit.

Aspecto Color rojo burdeos-granate. Limpio y brillante. Aroma Buena intensidad y frescura. Fruta roja, toques de sotobosque, ahumados y especiados. Limpio, neto y franco. Boca Sabroso, carnoso, equilibrado, buena acidez. Agradable postgusto.
2003 Vintage
Good size but struggles a bit. The nose is a touch green and murky, but below the surface there's solid raspberry and plum fruit. Shows some oak and barnyard throughout, and runs fairly smooth through the finish. Imported by CIV/USA.
