Critic tasting note: (2023 vintage) "Soft aromas of earth, cedar, gravel and bay leaf lead the charge before the fruit begins to emerge – blackcurrant and black cherry. A swirl of the glass unlocks notes of black olive and a whisper of mocha. On the palate, cedar and charry oak come first, followed by blackcurrant, mocha, earth and a touch of dark chocolate. The tannins are firm and grainy, framing the wine as it moves through to a medium-length finish. A bright line of acidity keeps things fresh. This is savoury-led, though not excessively so, offering solid structure and complexity. It’s not the most concentrated wine, but delivers plenty of interest for $30." - Winepilot

Inky crimson with mulberry, eucalyptus and subtle cedar, the palate is structured and bright with fine tannins and a long, pure finish driven by vibrant fruit and freshness.
Ripe red and black fruit like raspberry along with clove and ginger aroma on nose. The palate is rich, with some clove and vanilla generic on the nose and palate. Balanced with long finish.
Floral, leafy, elegant and understated. red fruits and dried herbs continue nicely on the palate.

The nose is deeply perfumed, giving aromas of blackcurrants, boysenberries, cinnamon bark and rose petals. The full-bodied palate has finely integrated tannins, showing wild blackberries, graphite, salt brine and dried herbs. Very complex and refined. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

An expressive wine from the get-go, layers of aromas float from the glass, from fresh red currant, bay leaf and savory spice to dark chocolate, coffee bean and warm tarmac. There's a quiet power here: iron fist in velvet glove vibes. Silky texture and al dente acidity with succulent red fruit and fine, chiseled, textural tannins make for a wine of slinky deliciousness that neatly reflects Margaret River, and for an excellent price to boot.
2022 Vintage
Tasted: Jul 2024
Restrained blackcurrant, tangy red plum and subtle bell pepper are lifted by sweet baking spices – nutmeg, cinnamon. There’s a cut of saline, nori-laced minerality through the wine’s core adding wonderful savouriness, unexpected for a wine of this price. This emerges more with air, morphing into a more pronounced dried kelp aroma. Very complex and elegant. A medium bodied palate holds a nice burst of flavour while maintaining elegance and poise. Red plum, blackcurrant and blackberry are quickly pulled into linearity by firm, silty tannins and blackfruited acidity to an even and elegant finish. This is quintessential Margaret River Cabernet in terms of its elegance and savoury salinity, with complexity and poise that punches far above its $30 price point.

This is perfumed with notes of black currants and blueberries with hints of eucalyptus, dried peppermint, cedar and crushed stones. Medium- to full-bodied, fresh and vivid with polished and refined tannins. Even and balanced with a juicy, mineral-driven finish. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

I like the savory iodine and bark notes here overlaid with black berry fruit, nutmeg and bay leaves. It’s juicy and supple with a medium to full body, silky tannins and soft, salty finish. Drink now or hold. Screw cap.

You are invaded with varietal Cabernet immediately thanks to punchy aromas of blackcurrant and black olive with a subtle floral oyster shell minerality. The palate is plush and concentrated yet with a driving core to take it effortlessly to a long finish. A final lift of sage bush and bay leaf completes a tidy wine.

Very beautiful cabernet with blackcurrants, currants and mint. Very intense spicy aromas. It’s full-bodied with chewy tannins and a fresh, driven finish. Very linear tannins that run the length of the wine and give it drive at the end. Some tile character at the end. Needs time to soften. Try after 2024.

A medium-bodied red with blackcurrant, blackberry, crushed stone and rosemary character. Creamy and polished tannins. Juicy and fresh. Lots of freshness and minty, dark fruit flavors at the end. Needs time to open. Try after 2025.

Sweet blackcurrants and fresh herbs such as basil and thyme. Some ink. Medium- to full-bodied with firm and fine tannins with a citrusy freshness and length. Needs time to soften. Better after 2024. Screw cap.

Heady fruit aromas of black cherry and red currant take the lead supported by dark chocolate, eucalyptus and ocean brine notes. Margaret River's distinctive tannins—granular yet fine and chiseled—work in harmony with lifted acidity. The characters of the nose linger on the palate as well. Drink now–2028. Christina Pickard

This is a solid and affordable Margaret River Cab in which chocolaty oak notes sit atop red currant, cassis, sweet spice and tobacco leaf flavors. Medium bodied, the fruit in the mouth feels plush and ripe but still vibrant and silky. Tannins offer a lovely sinewy texture. The oak flares up on the finish. Drink now–2027. Christina Pickard
2015 Vintage
Tasted: Aug 2019
It’s been a while since we have encountered a high-end Western-A cabernet that was tight and linear and well, cabernet sauvignon-like. Devoid of that the slurry of cedar and dusty earth the nose is a mix of spicy black fruit with a touch of good green. The fruit is sourced from numerous vineyard blocks in and around the subregion of Wilyabrup. The attack is all cabernet with resin dusted blackberry, black cherry fruit flecked with licorice and floral notes. A long well-integrated finish is orchestrated bt 18 months in French oak. Drink or hold through 2023. (Anthony Gismondi).
2014 Vintage
Tasted: Jun 2018
Spicy, ripe, full and powerful, as one would anticipate from a Margaret River cabernet sauvignon, one of the region's hallmark grapes, and one of the grape's classic regions. This is sourced from numerous vineyard blocks in and around the subregion of Wilyabrup. Blocks are vinified separately, fermented in tank, and matured in French oak for 18 months. Blackberry, black cherry is pushed through a charcoal filter, with a perfume of dark florals, anise emerging on the back end. Tannins are present, but sueded, and take a back seat to the fruit. Ample perfume, dusky black fruit, peppery spice fill the ripe palate, one that holds its poised form to the vanilla and cardamom kissed finish. This is ready for drinking now, though will hold with time in cellar. (Treve Ring).
2014 Vintage
Tasted: Jan 2018
This wine is dusty and a little austere but is unmistakably Margaret River. Aromas of cedar, pencil lead, blackberry, baking spices and cocoa powder are followed by a drying palate wrapped in savory tannins. The fruit is slightly lost here, and things are still on the lean and mean side, but this should behave a little more generously with time in the cellar. Drink 2020–2027.

Tasted: Jan 2017
Appropriately restrained and even a bit austere, this is a firm, dusty-textured Cabernet. Vanilla, tobacco and cherry notes start things off and extend through the long finish. It offers at least a decade of aging potential at a very reasonable price. Drink 2020–2030.

A good vintage for this wine, showing plenty of approachability and supple fruit style. Leaves, red cherry and blackberry fruit aromas lead to a sweetly-fruited palate, smooth chalky tannins and a long, dark-fruited finish. Drink now. Screw cap.

Tasted: Jan 2015
This supple, easy-drinking Cabernet features appealing ripe cassis and vanilla shadings. Hints of black cherry and graham cracker add nuance, while the texture is a bit creamy on the midpalate, turning dusty on the finish. Drink now–2020.
