I am impressed with the loads of ripe fruit with almost dried raspberries and blackberries and a minty undertone on the nose. It's full bodied, with bay leaf, berries that turn to mineral undertones. It's full-bodied, with round tannins and a lingering finish of chocolate, cedar and other woods. I would leave it another three to four years to soften and open just a tiny bit; otherwise, decant three hours in advance.

Intense ruby with a good depth of colour, orange reflections, and a broad watery rim. A fine floral bouquet on the nose, with cherry, subtle orange zest, liquorice and blackberry, floral lily notes, a hint of cedar wood, porcini mushroom and chocolate. The palate is complex, juicy, and elegant, pronounced in fruit, with vivid tannins, some black tea, slightly astringent, with the robust core of all good 82’s, deep with dark chocolate, but also red fruit nuances on the lengthy finish. Has excellent potential for further ageing! Drink/store +40 years.

(2002) Similar colour, but has retained more depth at core. Rather more closed on the nose. There is a deep seam of black plum and liquorice with some nuances of minerals and earth, but this is deep, dense and savoury. The palate is wonderfully concentrated and sonorous; it seems to extend in a column of dense black fruit. The core is plummy and rich, with notes of bramble and earth, but then a creamy layer of blackcurrant adds to a fleshy mid-palate. The purity of fruit here really pushes through to the finish. Great length and probably a few years off its peak. Should go on for decades.
