Second Growth. Deuxieme Grand Cru Classe in 1855. Also known as 'Grand Vin de Leoville du Marquis de Las Cases'
Expert tasting note: (2012 vintage) "Deep, dark, virtually opaque ruby red colour. Aromas are quite restrained with lead-pencil & cassis notes. Palate is fresh with a mid-weight of fruit. Tannins are fine, not astringent but are concentrated. Fruit is well integrated with the oak. Finish lasts pretty well. Arguably quite closed, but this is typical for Leoville-Las-Cases." - 11/16 DCAMW

- 2eme Grand Cru Classé
- Producer Notes
- The Grand Vin is the product of exceptional terroirs from the former Léoville estate. These terroirs are located mainly in the Clos Léoville Las Cases, which you pass as you leave Saint- Julien village for Pauillac. They extend over nearly 60ha producing Cabernet Sauvignons and Cabernet Francs with a complex, polished expression and characteristics which are totally unique to the Grand Vin of Léoville du Marquis de Las Cases and have been widely recognized for years.

- Vintage Notes

The vintage 2012 was characterised by a slow, late growth cycle due to a very cool and wet spring. The budburst was spread out over time and created a variation in the stages of development that was to be partially evened out by the dry, sunny period that began in mid-July. The colour change and ripening occurred in ideal weather conditions that continued through to harvest-time. The grapes remained perfectly healthy despite rainy spells during picking.
