Creamy and delicious, this elegant sparkler shows Valdobbiadene's serious potential for yielding savory, compelling wines. It opens with delicate but enticing scents of spring wild flower, white stone fruit and a whiff of hay. It's loaded with finesse, featuring ripe apple, Bartlett pear and hints of sage and almond set against a silky perlage of small continuous bubbles. Bright acidity keeps it balanced. Kerin O’Keefe

(2018) This was the stand-out wines of this tasting, not only for its handsome wax-embossed bottle, but for the atyptical intensity of the stuff within. From a single plot (plot #86) of the estate's vineyards lying at 230 metres altitude, there is some skin-contact maceration and a very low 7g/l of residual sugar to make for a more serious style, a frothy mousse revealing white flowers and lemon, yes a touch of icing sugar character, but peaches and salts in a complex picture. In the mouth intense and dry, a charge of electric sour acidity, real mineral saltiness, but softened by the peach down fruit too. So dry, intense yet voluminous, this is the pick of the Prosecco bunch. This vintage is not stocked in the UK at time of review.

This is a very successful wine that doesn’t impress quite as much as the other top wines of this impressive house, but that’s more because the others are so good than because of notable shortcomings. Made from 90% Glera (a.k.a. Prosecco) plus 10% Perera, a local variety that contributes an intense floral character that purportedly comes through even when the grapes are sampled directly from the vine, this starts with alluring flowery aromas. The texture is broad and soft, as one would expect from this Dry category, but the sugar is really not overly evident, and one must almost “feel” for it in the wine’s finish, which is admirably clean and fresh. This a beautiful Prosecco Superiore with bright aromas of white flower, stone fruit and dried grass. The mouthfeel is thin and crisp, but it leaves ample room for the creamy foam that inevitably spreads thickly over the palate.

Straw-yellow. Floral nose suggestive of chamomile tea. Expressive, firm and savoury palate recalling the nose aromas. Slightly sour, elegant finish. A wine with a sense of place pairing well with risotto.
