Bodega Monteviejo Lindaflor 'La Violeta' Malbec

Attractive nose of ripe dark plums, coffee, roasted cocoa beans and dried herbs. Full-bodied with powdery, chalky tannins. Lovely chocolate and walnut character. Plush and delicious with a generous, fleshy mid-palate. Drink or hold.

Flowers and stems with some walnut to the blue fruit. Coffee, too. It’s full and layered with lots of plush, creamy tannins. Rich chocolate, spices and coffee beans. Big wine and delicious now. Dusty, chocolate finish. Drink now.

Lot of blue fruit, cassis, hot stones, mocha, pine and some orange peel on the nose. Full-bodied with a creamy, melting tannin texture. Plush and ripe. Yet, it remains agile. Mineral at the end. Drink or hold.

This is a richer Violeta with blackberry, dark-chocolate and walnut aromas and flavors. Medium to full body. Creamy, round and layered tannins and a savory finish. Very fine. 7% cabernet franc to the malbec. Drink or hold on release.

Savory notes of dried herbs, blackberries, olives and walnuts. Some iodine, too. Medium-to full-bodied with lightly powdery tannins. Savory and fresh. Linear finish. Malbec with 9% cabernet franc. Drink or hold.

This mature Malbec is a throwback to the days when Mendoza was all about big is better. This smells ripe and raisiny, with a cooked-fruit element that some might dismiss as unfresh. In the mouth, this is typically bulky and saturated almost to the point of syrupy. Flavors of raisin, coffee, black licorice, root beer and jerky are sweet and savory prior to a flat finish. Black as night in color then lush, ripe and silky smooth on the nose, this heady Malbec offers aromas of marzipan, balsam, licorice and cassis. The palate is intense and tannic, with lusty flavors of blackberry, prune and chocolate. Finishing flavors of mocha, cocoa and toast are lush and long. Drink through 2018.

Red wine with a very intense and inky colour, opaque centre indicating a slight age at the rim. Aromatically it is also in a quite youthful phase right now I would say. I get some hints of roasted oak, a then there is a wealth of dark bright fruit there, plum, cassis, blackberry. Still rather on that youthful and primary fruit, not with any other indication of age actually. Really muscular on the palate. High density here, high extract in terms of tannin. Still appearing youthful, however, ripe without any greenness, but there is still a rather high level of extraction here. Which I think it gives it a good backbone to that quite lush and opulent fruit. It is certainly persistent on the finish, it keeps lingering. I think this is a wine that is still under evolution, it will develop far more complexity with more age. But it certainly has a structure and potential to go on for a long time. So very attractive here, with dark juicy fruit, with some notes of chocolate and liquorice. Dense, and I should say present, but ripe tannin. Yeah, very good potential here.

Much like the previous vintage of La Violeta, this is a fabulous Malbec with depth, density and power to spare. The bouquet yields marzipan, cola, fine leather, char and rich berry aromas. That sets up a palate with impeccable structure and huge flavors of beef jerky, mocha, black fruits and spice. The finish is massive and loaded, with licorice and mocha flavors. Drink now–2018. Only 100 cases made, with 50 imported into the U.S.

Dark and incredibly concentrated, with earth, black fruits, mint and exotic side notes. It's stout and tannic, but also rich and pure, with monster black fruit flavor and powerful coffee, toast and length on the finish. A smashing wine that's huge but delicious. Drink now through 2017.
