Poplar Grove Winery Rose

A slightly restrained nose but with time in the glass it reveals more red berries along with savoury herbal notes. Juicy, concentrated fruit on the palate is framed by crisp acidity. A friendly rosé for the summer. Tasted blind at NWAC June 2023. (HJ Cha).

Poplar Grove's Rosé is a dependable go-to, and the 2021 vintage is no different. It shows a combination of juicy red fruits, with a mix of cherry, strawberry, and candied watermelon, alongside a dusting of spices, leading to a balanced, approachable palate that's dry and laden with fruit. There's some astringency to the finish, and this will show at its best at the patio table paired with summer salads topped with grilled chicken or salmon. (Geoffrey Moss MW).

The Lakeview is an estate-grown (Naramata Bench) single-vineyard rosé mixing merlot and malbec (the latter using the saignée method that typically involves ‘bleeding’ off liquid from a juice tank for red wine in the early stages of the winemaking process). It opens with persistent aromas of wild strawberries and pink grapefruit overtones. In the glass, more ripe strawberry flavours carry the day before a dry finish kicks in. A solid pink we enjoyed with assorted late-afternoon patio bites. (Anthony Gismondi).

This rosé gets you at the bottle, with clear glass, sleek contoured shape and apothecary stopper. It positively glows from within and shouts 'drink me now.' Glossy translucent coral, it's all about red fruit on an extroverted nose - raspberries, strawberries and cream with a sprinkle of black sage. Juicy cherries, red currant and cranberry, the flavours swell in the mouth and end with a limey jangle. Vividly fruity, beautifully balanced, it shows just how ably malbec is suited to rose wines. Bold, fresh, full-flavoured and possessing a distinctly Okanagan herbal identity, Bone dry, only 12.5% alcohol, it's complete enough to sip solo or fancy up with crab salad. There's more to this rosé that meets the eye: Poplar Grove is a family-owned Naramata winery, and the fact that they are donating $5 per bottle to the BC Hospitality Foundation is beyond generous.
