Expert tasting note: (2000 vintage) "Very deep, dark ruby-red., but not quite opaque. Aromas are weedy/leafy cassis & lead pencil notes that are classic for Medoc reds. Leafy cassis on the palate is lifted by lively acidity and overlaid by vivid lead-pencil notes. There is a pretty good structure with grip, but not astringency. Alcohol is balanced & acid is sufficient to give lift and nice length. This is a well-balanced and classic Potensac with a fresh leafy charm." - 11/04 DCAMW

The vineyards of Château Potensac are located on one of the highest points in the northern Médoc, and extend mainly over limestone subsoil covered with clay and gravel with a high proportion of gravel, a terroir similar to that of the Saint-Estèphe appellation. Managed by the Delon family (Léoville Las Cases) since time immemorial, this renowned cru includes plots of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc planted over 75 years ago, producing perfectly ripe, healthy grapes.

The vintage 2000 was especially early thanks to rather mild weather at the beginning of the growth cycle. After heavy rain in April and cool weather until mid-June, the summer was then hot and dry up until the harvest. These very good weather conditions allowed us to produce perfectly balanced grapes with extremely rich phenolic components.

The 2000 Bordeaux vintage was brilliant.
The winter was mild but a warm, wet spring created a fleeting problem with mildew. However, from July onwards, a spectacular summer dominated with hardly any rain until mid-September when the heavens opened, although it was l...
