- Vineyard notes: "Château Potensac's vineyards extend mainly over hilly mounds with a limestone subsoil covered with clay and gravel outcrops containing a high proportion of gravel ("graves"). These limestone soils are very similar to those found in the Saint-Estèphe appellation. On this very special terroir, some plots of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc planted over 80 years ago still produce perfectly ripe, healthy grapes. The hamlet of Potensac was already cited in the first edition of Féret for the special characteristics and longevity of its wines."

Vintage Notes: A complicated vintage from start to finish: early, wet and then dry, the vines of this splendid terroir required constant work to convert these delicate conditions into extra soul. The harvest was of high quality, even if not very abundant, offering an exceptional maturity of tannins and minerality. The Grand Vin du Château Potensac stands forward with aplomb, with a masterful concentration, mineral tension and freshness of ripe black fruits. Certainly one of the most persistent ever produced at this stage.

Plenty of currants and flowers with crushed stone. Slate and iron, too. Lead pencil. Medium-bodied with racy and polished tannins that show intensity and length. Linear and focused. 44% merlot, 33% cabernet sauvignon, 22% cabernet franc and 1% petit verdot. Drink after 2025.

Dark ruby, purple reflections, firm core, soft brightening on the rim. Liquorice and tobacco, black wild berries, fresh orange zest. Taut, tightly meshed, red cherries, a fresh acidity, integrated tannins, fresh on the finish, red berries and lemon in the aftertaste, a lively food companion, good ageing potential.

(44% Merlot, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot, 14.05% Alkohol, 20% neue Barriques) In der Nase mit intensiver Cassisfrucht, auch Brombeeren, die Frucht springt förmlich aus dem Glas, wirkt klar und rein, dazu eine feine Würze, steinig kühle Noten. Im Gaumen gradlinig und wieder sehr fruchtbetont, keinerlei Holzdominanz, mittlerer Körper, feine, reife Gerbstoffe und eine top integrierte Säure stützen, man möchte gleich Schlucken, so verführerisch ist dieser Wein. Endet im Abgang wieder fruchtbetont und hallt angenehm lange nach. Sehr balanciert! 2024-2044 (Mai 2021)

Dark in color, the wine opens with persuasive notes of cedar, creme de cassis, tobacco and forest leaf in the perfume. Full-bodied, ripe, rich and packed with crisp, juicy currants, the wine finishes with a big mouthful of firm, chewy blackberries, currants and a refreshing sprig of mint on the backend.
