Very fine tannins here with a plum, cedar and granite character as well as dried meat. Medium-bodied, juicy and savory. Earthy and subtly flavorful. Decaying forest flower. A blend of 49% touriga nacional, 34% alfrocheiro preto, and 17% tinta roriz. So good now, but can age. Real Portuguese red. Drink or hold.

O lote inclui Touriga Nacional, Alfrocheiro e Tinta Roriz.

This is an impressive wine from this major estate in the Dão region. Strong minerality is allied to rich tannins to underline the wine's potential. Black fruits, acidity and solid tannins are showing beautifully. Drink from 2024. Roger Voss

This has a fragrant, pretty nose of stewed cherries, black plums, lavender, dried herbs and baking spices. It’s medium-to full-bodied with polished, fine-grained tannins and bright acidity. Plush and juicy with a deliciously spicy and toasty core of dark fruit. Tangy and energetic finish. Drink or hold.

This rich, sumptuous wine is packed with great swathes of black fruits as well as a layer of firm tannins that lend support. A ripe blend of Touriga Nacional, Alfrocheiro and Tinta Roriz, it shows aging potential and should be enjoyed from 2022. Roger Voss

Tasted: Dec 2019
This is a dense, richly textured wine, wood aged and blending Touriga Nacional, Alfrocheiro and Tinta Roriz. The wine has dark berry fruits and succulent acidity in fine proportion. Powerful tannins still stray across the palate, so this serious wine will be better from 2020. Roger Voss

(2019) Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz and Alfrocheiro blend, each component fermented in stainless steel then aged separately for 12 months in new and used French oak before blending. Very sophisticated wine, herb and garrigue character, fudge-like creaminess and keen-edged black fruits. Juicy and deliciously cool and creamy, mint-edged black fruit smoothly fresh into the menthol finish. Note price and stockist quoted at time of review is for an earlier vintage.

This wine comes from the Guedes family's Carvalhais estate in the heart of the Dão. Only made in better vintages, this latest release is almost at its peak. It has smooth, ripe tannins with leather, spice and acidity rather than the primary fruits. That makes for a sophisticated, complex wine that will be ready to drink from late 2016.

Solidly tannic, this concentrated wine demands time to mature. With flavors of black plum skin and damson, it is fruity, but that fruit is masked by the dark tannins, the mineral structure and the brooding temperament of this still-young wine. Drink from 2016.

Big white pepper, licorice, sweaty saddle, cedar, vanilla, black cherry, gamey pudding aromas. Rich, round, fairly supple entry with ripe tannins and very full bodied. Intense smoky licorice, black cherry, chocolate pudding, cassis, mineral, gamey resin flavours. Dry finish but fine length and intensity, should be able to age well for the next 2-5 years. Very attractive style for meat and grilled foods this fall and winter. (Anthony Gismondi).

Tanino fino, acidez vibrante, lado mineral evidente, final longo. É intenso, sério, viril, para guardar vários anos.
