A plush, modern style with good depth and complexity. Hazelnuts, cocoa nibs, ripe blackberries and some charred spices on the nose. The full-bodied palate is rounded by firm, lightly chewy tannins. Structured, tight and long. Give it two more years.

Tasted: May 2021
Ripe blackberry and dark plum aromas are dense and full as they veer toward raisin, while this feels stocky and deep, with beneficial edginess to the well-structured palate. Dark chocolate, coffee, vanilla and easygoing spice flavors sit atop the core blackberry and cassis, while this is smooth and silky on a finish with licorice and chocolate notes that ride on for a while. Drink this comfortably ripe and pure red blend through 2027. Michael Schachner

Deep dark and minty, the boldo takes me back to Chile quickly as the spice and coffee infill the nose. The assemblage is a mix of petit syrah, cabernet sauvignon, carmenere, and malbec grown at Peumo in the Cachapoal Valley. The attack is minty with spicy, intense black fruit flecked with espresso, olives, dried herbs, and licorice. A lot is going on here, so it might be best to cellar this for five to seven years before you begin to drink it. If you do open a bottle, lamb would be the preferred match at this time. Tasted: Jul 2019
Despite a saturated black color and deep aromas of raisin, fig and chocolate that push the level of acceptable ripeness to the hilt, this is a delicious multigrape blend to drink now. A fleshy, voluminous palate holds ripe flavors of blackberry, black plum and prune. Coffee and chocolate flavors are more than background notes on a smooth finish with silky tannins. Tasted: Feb 2019
A very powerful wine, heroic even, with very rich and ripe, deeply set dark berries and some sultry, dark, stony-mineral notes. Loads of fruit, cast in a very full-bodied palate that has a rich, smooth, long and plush blackberry finish. A blend of 70 per cent petit sirah and petit verdot; the balance is cabernet sauvignon, carmenere and malbec. Drink or hold.

This is an enormous wine. It’s big as a bear, but has enough bones and tannic structure to support all that weight. It’s still very young and could use another 3 or 4 years in the bottle, but for now, stick with lamb chops.

This dark, concentrated blend of five grapes opens with spicy aromas of coffee, black fruits and toasty oak. If the palate is a touch firm, airing or more time in bottle will soothe that. Tar, spice, olive, herbs and black-fruit flavors are deep and seamless, backed by licorice and chocolate on the finish. Drink through 2023.

Heavy, raisiny, ripe aromas of prune and earthy blackberry set up a chewy, oaky, mildly tannic palate that's fully stuffed with woody, baked, almost malty flavors of blackberry, chocolate and toast. This is a rich, ripe number, with a loamy, toasty finish that shows black licorice and jammy cassis flavors. Drink through 2018.

This mix of Petit Verdot and four other red grapes is dark, slightly raisiny and jammy on the nose. In the mouth, it is ripe and ripped, with depth and density along with soft tannins. Flavors of prune, baked berry, licorice and peppery spice finish with overt herb, tobacco and chocolaty flavors. Drink this powerful, weighty blend through 2018.

Herbal, leathery aromas give way to a pretty strong blast of green that infiltrates the wine. Alongside the herbal, green core character is spiced chocolate, dark berry fruit and blazing acidity. This is full, saturated and masculine, with raking tannins. Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Petit Verdot.

Tasted: Jan 2010
Probably the best-eve wine from Santa Carolina. It's rich and earthy, but also shows pure fruit and just a mild hint of fresh herbs. Saturated and broad on the palate, with a nice mix of sultry fruit flavors and savory notes. Refined but robust; classy and elevated. 2,000 cases made.

Tasted: Jan 2008
We haven't seen a VSC blend since 2001, and this shows more ripeness and clarity than in the past. Still, there's a mild whiff of green to the nose and palate, which prevents it from achieving a higher plateau. It's Cabernet with Syrah and Petit Verdot, and the end result features a healthy, lively mouthfeel and solid but lightly herbal cherry and berry flavors. Imported by Carolina Wine Brands USA Inc.
