- Cortina Zinfandel represents our peak expression of Zinfandel from Dry Creek Valley. Named for the gravelly loam soils where this variety thrives, the heart of Cortina comes from Chen’s Vineyard, planted by the Seghesio Family in 1972. Shrouded by morning fog and cooled by afternoon breezes, the grapes benefit from longer hang time, resulting in an elegant Zinfandel with lifted aromatics, bright layered fruit and refined structure.

Sourced from the Dry Creek Valley, the 2019 ‘Cortina’ is downright delicious to savor in its youth. Deeply concentrated, with a great veil of tension, this delivers plenty of black plum, blueberry pie and espresso bean flavors with an exceedingly long finish. Refined and also quite viscous, this has a long way to go in the cellar.

Tasted: Jul 2021
Rich yet translucent ruby colour. The nose is filled with ripe blueberry, raisin, prune-like aromas dressed with Chinese five spice. A surprisingly fresh palate which showcases the integration of alcohol by the rich flavours, fine tannins and the structured acidity. It is rare to find a Zinfandel that shows so much concentration and elegance at the same time. G.Z.

Strong ruby garnet, purple reflections, brightening to the rim. Delicate nuances of cherries, red forest berry confit, light hints of nougat, inviting bouquet. Juicy, elegant and fresh, fine wood savouriness, pleasant structure.Underpinned, pleasantly structured, salty and red berry aftertaste.

Tasted: Jan 2015
Red plum and cherry surround soft, firm tannins, medium acidity and plenty of well-constructed structure, unimpeded by oak. A hint of leather, dried herb and bay leaf accent it well. Although the wine is powerful, it's not overdone, instead offering balance.
2011 Vintage
Tasted: Jan 2014
Sourced from two low-yielding vineyards in Dry Creek Valley, this Zin is heady and delicious with flavors of wild cherry, red currant, cola, thyme, white pepper and sandalwood. There's a glyerine feel from high alcohol, but the palate is balanced with acidity and a dry finish. This just might be the best barbecue wine of the vintage.

Tasted: Jan 2013
As always, Seghesio's Cortina is a rich, complex Zinfandel. It captures Zin's briary, brambly, spicy personality, with dense, wild forest-berry fruit, yet manages to be elegantly compact and even Cabernet-like in its tannin structure. A very classy wine that deserves a spot on the best wine lists.

Tasted: Jan 2013
(2013) Some old gobolet vines in this wine from Dry Creek Valley. Cortina is the name of a soil type. Fine, peppery, bright fruit here again, a little more black fruited, but still brightly focused, with great focus a crispness and sharpness, the sense of intensity and of blue/black concentration is very good. It has real juiciness, a dry tannin really powerful, a smokiness, and a richness too; just suggestions of dried fruit intensity and almost Amarone quality, but it has freshness.

A joy to drink. It's so ripely exuberant in fruit, explosive in wild berry, dried red currant, licorice, cocoa and dusty spice flavors that sink deep into the palate and last forever on the finish. Yet it's dry, and the structure is entirely elegant. The two vineyards that are source to this wine are old and dry-farmed. A very great Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel, a real classic. Drink now–2015.
2007 Vintage
Tasted: Jan 2010
A beautiful massive, mouthfilling Zinfandel. Impresses on every level, from the smooth, rich tannins to the dryness and above all the depth and range of flavors. Blackberries, chocolate, anise, bacon, pepper, sandalwood, the list goes on. Zinfandel doesn't get much richer than this. The alcohol is.
2001 Vintage
Tasted: Jan 2003
Somewhat oak-driven, with big tannins framing the black cherry, blackberry, tea and spice flavors. The flavors are pleasing but take a backseat to the toasty oak.
1998 Vintage
Tasted: Jan 2001
Cortina refers to the soil type. The wine shows forward, pretty fruit, mixing berries and cherries, and follows up with bright, clean, mouth-friendly flavors. Falls off in the finish, with some dry tannins.
