When to drink: 2024 to 2030

Sourced from several top vineyards in the region, the 2022 Siduri ‘Willamette Valley’ Pinot Noir is deeply colored and perfumed in the glass, offering red currants and red rose petals alongside menthol and stony notes. The palate is soft and very approachable with a generous core of bright red fruits. This is a steal as an entry level WV Pinot. Drink now and over the next several years.

What's not to love about an aromatic combination of Bing cherries, cheesecake and a bittersweet dark chocolate? Things flip on the palate, with tarter red cherries and cacao nibs dueling with spicy nutmeg and balsa for flavor supremacy. Fortunately, a muscular set of tannins is up to to the task of standing up to all that fruit.

Spiced and a little earthy, with red and darker fruit as well as hints of dried flowers and wet stone. Polished and sleek, with a medium body and a chalky texture to its tannins. Very refined. Drink now. Screw cap.

Siduri, named for the Babylonian goddess of wine, specializes in Pinot Noir, especially single vineyard bottlings. According to their website they make only single vineyard wines from a total of 20 vineyards throughout California and Oregon. Fortunately, they have expanded their production and now produce blended wines from three appellations: Willamette Valley in Oregon, plus two from California, specifically, Santa Barbara County, and the Russian River Valley. These additions to their portfolio are a boon for consumers because each of the wines is easy to recommend and reasonably priced — at least for Pinot Noir. Plus, if you taste the three side-by-side, it allows you to taste and discern the differences among the AVAs. Everything except where the grapes are grown is the same: same vintage, same grape, same winemaking team. So, the only difference is the origin of the grapes. The verdict, as you will see, is that terroir is alive and well in the USA. Siduri’s Willamette Valley bottling comes from grapes grown in three AVAs within the valley: Yamhill-Carlton, Chehalem Mountains, and Eola-Amity. Racy and juicy, it delivers far more that bright fruitiness. Indeed, savory notes are clear and balance the red raspberry-like quality. A welcome hint of bitterness in the finish adds to its appeal. Less ripe than Siduri’s Russian River Valley or Santa Barbara bottlings, this one shows the understated charm that Oregon’s Willamette Valley delivers. (Michael Apstein)

2018 Vintage Tasted: Dec 2019

2018 was a warm year to remember in Oregon with few heat spikes and more critical no rain during most of the harvest. The wine is surprisingly dark for pinot noir, mixing six different locations from three Willamette Valley appellations: Yamhill-Carlton, Chehalem Mountains, and Eola-Amity. About a third of the wine was made with whole bunch ferments featuring ripe stems. The thinking is it adds a level of spice and tannin that can balance off the intense Oregon pinot fruit. Oregon pinot always has that herby, earthy undercurrent that attracts trade types and eonophiles perhaps more than those simply love the sweet pinot style. In this case, black cherries and boysenberry present in a juicy style laced with cinnamon spice and underbrush. Complex and long thanks to the use of 15 different clones and only thirty percent new French oak. Drink or hold through 2024. (Anthony Gismondi).

2016 Vintage Tasted: Oct 2018

I have don’t have a long history with this Oregon pinot that has been made for over two decades, but this is a quality drop of wine. It’s a terrific vintage and using a diverse mix of vineyards has woven a delicious complexity into this humble pinot. This red/black fruit jumps from the glass with a silky svelteness we don’t see in California. Flowers, minerals, forest floor and deliciously sour cherry fruit entice your palate with every sip. The finish is equally impressive with intense, long lasting flavours that linger forever. (Anthony Gismondi).

Siduri is best-known for its often stunning vineyard-designate Pinot Noirs, but there’s much to be said for the winery’s less expensive "appellation" wines that are essentially blends from multiple vineyards. Winemaker Adam Lee puts as much care into those wines as he does the vineyard designates, and the upshot is these offer some of the greatest values in domestic Pinot Noir. The 2015 Willamette Valley from Siduri shows exquisite balance between acidity and fruit, with a light touch of wood spice and a lasting, satisfying finish. A gem at the price. (Robert Whitley)

Siduri Oregon is all about a variety of vineyard sources: more than 20 in total. As a result the wine gains complexity. This vintage uses Arbre Very 44 percent, Shaw 35 percent, Muirfield 13 percent, and Hawk’s View 9 percent. The style is classic Oregon with a soft palate and a mix of forest floor and slightly sour cherry/strawberry fruit. An amazing 4489 cases produced and rated vegan-friendly and gluten-free. This wine was made from declassified barrels from Siduri’s single-vineyard program. It’s a great example of fresh, simple Pinot Noir at a down-to-earth price. If Siduri hadn’t bottled it, the wine would have been "bulked out," meaning sold off to be used in a vast generic blend. The fruit is pretty if not flamboyant, with a bit of bite on the back end. Siduri, based in Santa Rosa, California, is expanding their reach into Oregon. Current releases include this excellent Willamette Valley blend and a quartet of single-vineyard offerings. This wine is spicy, lightly touched with chocolate/nougat candy bar flavors, and nicely balanced, with moderate alcohol and firm acids.

2006 Vintage Tasted: Jan 2008

This wine shows the California influence, taking the edges off the Oregon fruit and pushing it forward on the palate. Broad flavors of strawberry jam and streaks of melon take over, with plenty of the root beer/cola character right behind. It could almost be Russian River juice, but shown in a lighter, more elegant style. Excellent value.
