2022 Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte 'Les Hauts de Smith'

The 2022 Les Hauts de Smith Rouge, 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged in 30% new oak. Deep garnet-purple in color, it comes barreling out of the glass with black cherry compote, blueberry pie, and cassis notes, followed by hints of dusty soil and bay leaves. The medium to full-bodied palate is coated with black fruit layers and a chewy texture, finishing with a peppery lift.

Medium-bodied, round, soft, and elegant, the wine is packed with round-textured, sweet, black cherries, chocolate, espresso, spice, licorice, and freshness, with a sprig of mint on the backend. Give it a year or two in the cellar, and it is going to be even better! The wine blends 60% Merlot with 40% Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink from 2025-2038.

Offener als En Primeur, zeigt Schokolade, rauchige Noten, Cassis und Kirschen, blonder Tabak; cremiger Gaumenauftakt, wirkt noch wild, voluminös, merklich Tannin, Rasse, Würze und eine sehr gute Länge im Abgang. Spielt eine Liga über seiner Preisklasse.(Trinken von 2027 bis 2045)

Very pure fruit on the nose with currants, berries and hints of citrus. Cranberries and fresh herbs as well. Medium body with very fine tannins and lovely energy. Refined and polished. The tannins grow on the palate. 60% merlot and 40% cabernet sauvignon. It's hard not to drink now, but will be better in two or three years.

Very fresh and tasty. Some floral notes like violet (very little on nose but more present on the palate). Nice fruit core, a bit green on the finish but easy drinking.

Le nez est fruité, tendu, précis et offre une jolie finesse et droiture du grain. Il exprime les notes de mûre, de badiane et plus légèrement – de violette associées à des touches de petits fruits rouges rôtis, ainsi qu’à des pointes de petites baies noires juteuses/mûres, à des de pointes de tabac blond et à une subtile pointe d’amande toastée. La bouche est juteuse, minérale et offre de la gourmandise, de la tension, une certaine droiture, un côté étiré/franc, de la pureté, de la jutosité. Elle exprime les notes de mûre juteuse/pulpeuse, de bleuet et plus légèrement – de cerise griotte associées à des touches de framboise pulpeuse/éclatante, de petits fruits noirs denses/juteux/frais, ainsi qu’à des pointes de moka, de toasté, et à des pointes grillées/torréfaction. Jolie minéralité et fraicheur. Un joli grain et un côté texturé. Belle minéralité. Une fine pointe de bonne amertume fond/persistance, qui donnent du peps et de la longueur.

Dark ruby garnet colour with opaque core and purple reflections, broad ocher reflections. Ripe dark berries, hints of plum, candied orange zest. Medium complexity, fine cherry fruit, red wild berries, fresh and mineral, citrusy nuances on the finish, already approachable, gastronomic style.
