Taylors Wakefield Promised Land Cabernet Sauvignon

There's a soft, plump and spice-filled nose like rum raisin ice cream with a cherry sauce, pencil lead, dried herbs and something more mealy and oak-driven. The palate shows similar succulent fruit-and-oak appeal with nice acidity and savory, chalky tannins.

This is a dense, minty Cab with plum and black currant fruit, violet, tobacco leaf and ground pepper aromas. The hefty palate is wound in somewhat drying tannins, but the succulent dark berry fruit and spice make their way through the cracks. Needs equally rich food if drinking now, but could stand another year or two in bottle to settle in.

This wine offers fleshy red fruit, gentle baking spice and earthy herbs. The medium- to full-bodied palate is equally soft and supple. The fruit remains bright and juicy while the tannins are structured and textural. Christina Pickard

This Cab starts out somewhat reductively, with a barnyard funk on the nose. There's also plenty of red and black berry fruit, however, along with notes of licorice, earthy spice and chocolatey oak. There's a raw, rusticity here that's more apparent once it opens with time in glass. The palate shows elevated acidity and a touch of alcohol heat, along with a bite of drying tannins. This aromatic Cab opens with a plummy, red currant tang, flanked by white pepper, dried green herbs, graphite and a hint of dried flowers. Medium to full in body, the fruit is plush but bright, backed by herbal, graphite characters right through to the close. For the price, this is an impressively detailed and complex wine. Floral notes reminiscent of lavender or rosemary mark the nose and impart interest to the palate, which deftly marries herbs, baking spices and dark fruit. Crisp acids combine with soft tannins on the silky finish. Drink now–2022.
