About the Product

Producer Notes: Calafuria is produced from vineyards that extend along the Adriatic coastline. Its name comes from one of the over 700 bays on the Apulian peninsula. The region boasts a long tradition for the production of rosé wines made from Negroamaro, a variety that best expresses its full potential near the sea. Calafuria is a rosé that is delicate, pleasantly fruity, savory and well-rounded, reflecting the aromas and colors of its home territory, Salento.

Winemaking: Immediately after harvesting, the grapes were destemmed and gently pressed. The must was transferred into temperature controlled stainless steel vats at 12 °C (54 °F) to favor natural clarification of the must. Alcoholic fermentation took place at a temperature of 16 °C (61 °F) to preserve and enhance aromatic compounds.

Helles Pink, in der Nase mit feiner, intensiver Frucht, Amarenakirsche, Holunderblüte, Eukalyptus, am Gaumen saftig-fruchtig, viel Wein, hat eine gute Spannung, einen gewissen Grip mit einem animierenden Bitterton am Ende. Viel Trinkanimation im Glas.

This peach-pink rosado is made from the negroamaro grape. It is sourced from the Maìme estate in San Pietro Vernotico, near the Adriatic, on the Antinori-owned Tormaresca estate in Puglia. You may be surprised by how fresh and vibrant it is while remaining Italian dry and food-friendly. We love the fragrant southern Italian notes of melon and mango that permeate its creamy texture and fresh citrus-sprayed grapefruit and pear fruit. It has a lovely purity and authenticity; hence, it looks Provençcal but is Italian. It sold in 1.5-litre bottles. (Anthony Gismondi).

The nose offers aromas of sugared grapefruit slices, white mulberries and apricots with skin just turning from golden to pink with a spicy kick of cinnamon. It rolls onto a palate that's juicy with fruit but has the savory addition of pencil eraser and grows even spicier with the presence of substantial heat and acid.

From the Antinori owned Tormaresca estate, in Puglia, this peach pink rosado is negroamaro based, and sourced from the Maìme estate in San Pietro Vernotico. Glossy and glycerol-lined, this dry, fuller pink carries grapefruit, ripe pear, and fragrant floral blossoms along the palate, finishing with a dusting of spice and a wilting floral note. Simple, yet aspirational, and a nice change of pace from Southern France (the obvious target audience). (Treve Ring).

We haven’t seen Calafuria in BC yet because it’s all the rage in Italy and there isn’t enough to go around. This negroamaro rosato is grown at the Maìme estate in San Pietro Vernotico. It was a very dry, warm year but the traditional viticulture of Puglia is well suited to the conditions, as evidenced by this tasty pink. With some help from a cooling Tramontana north wind there is a freshness here along with very clean, peachy, grapefruit flavours with a delicate watery edge. This is fun and now the number one selling rosé in Italy. A super patio pink. (Anthony Gismondi).
